We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that on Thursday 31 January we were named Best Visual Spectacular at the Festival Supplier Awards 2019. We entered two of our most stand-out and captivating festival shows of 2018 in to the awards; the stunning ‘Portolan’ and our highwire fire spectacular for the finale for Bestival.

Commissioned by Sunderland Culture, we collaborated with expert highwire walkers Chris Bullzini and Johanne Humblet to create ‘Portolan’; a memorable and breathtaking show with, and for, the communities of Sunderland which featured LED Umbrellas, an original score composed by Heg Brignall and 40m pyrotechnic waterfall drop from Wearmouth Bridge.

Marking 250 years of modern day circus our theatrical highwire finale show for Bestival mesmerised thousands on the final night of the festival. The show consisted of world class wire walkers Chris Bullzini, Johanne Humblet and Jade Kindar Martin as well as aerialist and Hollywood stunt woman Karine Mauffrey, who performed together on two wires in perfect harmony. They were joined by the London Contemporary Voices Choir and LED umbrella dancers to create a truly beautiful and memorable experience.

‘Judges were blown away by Cirque Bijou’s impressive production values and performances which included choreography, lighting shows, pyrotechnics, music and a circus show.’
