Starting life in 2014, the Kitchen Circus Project is a collaboration between Cirque Bijou and Knowle West Media Centre which brings together communities and artists to explore the idea of home and what that means in our modern society where communities are fractured and identity and citizenship is being questioned, using circus, song and digital arts. In 2018 we were joined by a third collaborative partner, Travelling Light Theatre Company, for the next phase of the project.

This February half-term the Kitchen Circus Project connected three different families and three different artists for a week of research and development, exploring the notion of ‘home’. Uncovering stories of family and community using film, art and storytelling, the R&D culminated in a sharing which brought together all three families and artists.

Findings from this research and development week will help inform the creation process for performances in 2020 and 2021.

Take a look at the Kitchen Circus Project 2015, which brought an evening of art and performance to the streets of Hengrove in partnership with local communities.
