We are looking for creative people aged 14 to 25 from Bristol, Bath, Somerset and South Gloucestershire to make new and exciting performances for local outdoor festivals and events.

The new work might include: circus, dance, street theatre, digital arts, music, extreme or urban sports, but we are open to other ideas!  Preference will be given to ideas that show innovation and a mix of art forms and skills.  All creative work will be considered apart from screen-based work.

Step Up will provide financial and production support and artistic development for the realisation of the chosen ideas.  Commissions will be available of up to £1500.

The performance needs to be able to be shown outdoors either on a stage, on grass or on the street.

If you have an inspiring idea for a new performance that could be shown at a local festival or event, send us a maximum of 250 words stating:

  • The performance idea
  • Images, video links, if available
  • What support you would want from us, showing how you intend to use up to £1500 to develop your work
  • Group or individual profile and experience
  • Contact details

Access funds are available to support deaf and disabled artists.

We are also looking for young people to be involved in the production of the performances as:

  • Creative producers
  • Technicians

Step Up 2009

2009 saw the first year of the project get underway with 4 new outdoor performances commissioned, created and shown across a number of festivals in Bristol.

To see a short film of last year's project click here.

We were really pleased with this first phase of the project and the impact it had both on the participating young artists and their careers but also on the wider public as they got to see these exciting performances unveiled for the first time.

"Gathering the first audience of people who stayed through out the show felt wonderful. Walking away after that first performance feeling like all the hard work had paid off made me feel very proud!"
                                  -  Megan Vaughan-Thomas, Participating Artist
